The Last Order | Chapter 8

Chapter 8 - Addiction

Lu Yuan recalled in his mind the contents he had practiced in the morning.

He felt that he had already mastered the dozens of basic fist techniques taught by Lin Zhiqin and could remember them clearly. He was also able to perform each move.

However, there would definitely be deviations in the standard level of the moves.

"When I've learned all the basic leg techniques, basic footwork and other professional basic skills, and upgraded them all to lv3, I'll be able to unlock the core skills of the profession!"

As a [Student] profession, the core skill [Absolute Focus] was unlocked after Lu Yuan upgraded all eight main subjects to lv3.

Unlocking the [Absolute Focus] skill would allow Lu Yuan to completely differentiate himself from ordinary students.

His learning efficiency would undergo a qualitative molting, giving him a sense of cheating in learning.

Therefore, Lu Yuan was very much looking forward to what surprises the core skills of the [Fighter] profession would bring him.

"The martial arts classes are scheduled on weekends, two sessions per week. To learn the basic leg techniques and basic footwork, I'll have to wait another week.

But I can have Cheng Peng teach me first."

Lu Yuan had already assigned Cheng Peng the role of a tool man in his heart.

After the huge amount of exercise in the morning and the big lunch, Lu Yuan soon felt sleepy lying in bed.

He didn't know how long he had slept when a series of ringtones woke him up from his dreams.

Lu Yuan was originally still dazed when he reached for his phone, but the soreness in his arm made him completely awake in an instant.

"Endure it, the torn muscles will definitely heal and stop hurting so much tomorrow!"

Lu Yuan consoled himself with gnashing teeth.

With great effort, he grabbed his phone and saw more than a dozen message notifications.

He opened the chat app and saw that one of the dozen-plus messages was a friend request from someone.

"I'm Liu Yue, please add me as a friend."

It was the round-faced girl with glasses from the martial arts class.

Lu Yuan casually approved the request.

He then checked the remaining messages and found they were all from his sister Lu Jing.

Sis: "Little bro! See the beauty of Xixu! The great desert scenery you've never experienced before!"

Below were more than a dozen photos.

Desert, Gobi, tamarisk, and several photos of a girl wearing a hat riding a camel, smiling gleefully.

The girl on the camel was naturally Lu Jing herself.

Lu Yuan quickly glanced through the dozen-plus photos and quickly typed: "Jealous, paid vacation frolicking in the mountains and rivers, with a salary too."

The message was sent and he got a reply back in seconds.

"! You don't know how harsh the conditions are here!

The ruins we're excavating are deep in the Xixu Desert. I can only live in tents now.

I can only bathe once a week, don't even dare to speak outside, swallow pounds of sand with one word!"

"Haha!"

Lu Yuan couldn't help but laugh out loud, sending over a few laughing emoji.

Then he thought for a while and asked, "Sis, what did you guys dig up this time?"

Lu Jing replied: "The ruins of a large temple from the Baishan era, very valuable for studying the religious history of that time.

It's a rather significant discovery.

Just you wait little bro, before long you'll see your sis on the news. (proud)"

"Pfft, you're just a lowly errand runner in the archaeology team, and you want to get on TV?

Whether they dig up anything has nothing to do with you."

"(Contempt)(Contempt)(Contempt)!"

Lu Yuan chatted with Lu Jing for a while and learned that the archaeological work she was participating in this time would take a relatively long time, possibly lasting more than half a year or even over a year.

She didn't know when she would have a chance to come back in the middle, at least not in the short term.

After ending the chat, Lu Yuan went online on his computer to search for some information about the Baishan temple.

The Baishan era was over three thousand years ago in history.

It was an extremely chaotic and dark age, with many religions.

Many of those cults had very sinister doctrines, liked to sacrifice living people, and were extremely bloody.

Lu Yuan only read a little before closing the webpage.

"Don't know what kind of temple the archaeology team dug up.

If they kept digging and dug up a pile of bones, Lu Jing's courage would probably make her cry on the spot."

Lu Yuan thought amusingly.

As for the incident that had recently occurred at home, Lu Yuan didn't mention it to Lu Jing.

He reckoned his parents hadn't told Lu Jing either.

After all, she was now thousands of miles away in the depths of the great desert. Even if she knew, she couldn't help at all, only worry for nothing.

Why say more?

"Studying well and practicing martial arts well, this is also the biggest thing I can do to help my parents right now."

Lu Yuan thought to himself.

Putting down his phone, he sat down at his desk.

Although his arms were still sore and he couldn't write, his homework was almost done.

Reading books, previewing new lessons, and reviewing to consolidate under the [Absolute Focus] state.

After an afternoon, the experience values of all eight main subjects had increased, and the profession experience of [Student] also rose by several dozen points, getting closer and closer to lv4.

Around 5pm, Zheng Qiuling hurried upstairs to call Lu Yuan to help watch the store while she went into the kitchen to make dinner.

Lu Xinghua had come back from the hospital for a bit in between, grabbed some food in boxes and hurried off again. Lu Yuan didn't even get to exchange a few words with him.

But he did get a piece of good news.

Grandpa's surgery for his stroke could be scheduled for next week.

"My arms can't train for now, but my core and legs are fine."

After dinner, Lu Yuan spread a straw mat in the living room and lay down, starting training on everything except his arms.

Of course, this was under the [Absolute Focus] state.

[You focused on professional training for 10 minutes, profession experience +1]

[Your skill Beginner Body Tempering has improved, experience +2]

[Your skill Beginner Body Tempering has improved, experience +4]

Constant messages on the panel.

The biggest benefit of the profession panel was that it could instantly feedback Lu Yuan's efforts in the form of experience values.

Hard work transformed into motivation, allowing Lu Yuan to have more enthusiasm for more arduous cultivation.

Not to mention, training the body itself was very addictive.

"In my past life I didn't understand people getting addicted to working out.

Now I get it."

"Huff--huff--"

Lu Yuan panted heavily, finishing another set of training, muttering to himself: "This process of constantly breaking through your limits does make you easily gain a sense of self-achievement."

Lu Yuan's original goal was to just do two sets per exercise.

But after two sets he still felt he had energy, so he did another two sets.

After those two sets, another two sets.

In the end, he did a full eight sets for the entire routine!

Not stopping until he had squeezed out every last bit of strength in his body, sprawling spread-eagled on the living room floor, without even the strength left to twitch a pinky finger.

Only then did he rest.

"I won't be sore all over tomorrow to the point I can't get up, right?"

The straw mat below him was already soaked with sweat. Lu Yuan lay looking up at the snow-white ceiling of the living room, thinking silently.

Until the profession panel information slowly emerged on that ceiling, and seeing the sharply increased experience value.

Lu Yuan couldn't help but laugh.

"If I can't get up then I can't get up."

"Feeling stronger really feels awesome."
