The Last Order | Chapter 3

Chapter 3 - Absolute Focus

Lu Yuan's current profession was [student].

The eight main subjects taught in school were the eight basic skills for him in this profession.

Lu Yuan concentrated on listening in class, self-study, and doing exercises. In the process of mastering knowledge, he could gain some skill experience in the subjects.

Every 10 minutes of focused studying allowed him to gain 1 point of [student] professional experience.

Of course, the way to gain the most experience was through exams.

Whether it was a major grade exam or a minor class quiz, weekly or monthly tests, every time Lu Yuan went through an exam, his experience points could surge dramatically.

In the two months since transmigrating here, he was able to go from an originally mediocre student with below average grades, to now being in the top 3 in his class and top 20 in his grade as a "study master."

While his own hard work was certainly important, the main reason was due to the profession panel in front of him.

During this time, he also went through two professional level ups.

[Student] lv1 leveled up to lv3.

The two-level ups provided Lu Yuan with 2 attribute points and 2 skill points respectively.

The former raised his intelligence to over 10 points, exceeding the average intelligence of normal high school students. The latter made up for his weakness in physics, and also lit up a core skill on his panel - [Absolute Focus].

[Absolute Focus] (Active): Effect: Allows the learner to highly concentrate their mental strength for a short period of time, slightly increasing brain power, and be completely devoted to studying.

(Note: The duration of this skill is related to intelligence and physique attributes. The higher the intelligence and physique, the longer it can last.)

For an impulsive teenager going through puberty, this skill could be called a "divine skill."

Lu Yuan now felt the slight throbbing pain in his head had already disappeared, so he stopped massaging his temples.

Instead, he started massaging his sore and swollen fingers and wrists.

"My brain doesn't seem to have reached its limit yet, but my body really can't take it anymore. My physical strength has been too drained."

Who said studying wasn't a physically demanding task?

Lu Yuan wanted to sign up for some sports club to strengthen his body. Aside from preparing for the future exams, another reason was that he hoped to increase the activation time of [Absolute Focus], which was like indirectly improving his studying efficiency.

"I'll go online tonight to download some workout videos to follow along. I'll start running tomorrow!"

Lu Yuan squeezed his arm which he could fully grip with one hand, secretly making up his mind.

His current physique was really too poor.

His previous self only knew to hide in his room all day reading novels and comics, he was practically disabled from lying around so much.

During the school's physical exams, he would always fail.

With a body like this, he was even worried that if he accidentally studied too hard one day, he would just collapse at his desk and never be able to get back up.

After resting for a while, feeling his strength had mostly recovered and it was almost 3pm, Lu Yuan prepared to head to the hospital.

Before leaving, he took out a stack of light green bills from a thick dictionary on his bookshelf and carefully stuffed it into his pocket.

This was the reward money the school gave him for improving his grades twice, 500 yuan the first time and 800 yuan the second time, totaling 1300 yuan.

On the way to the hospital, he would stop to withdraw the money in his phone account to round up the amount and look for a chance to give it all to his dad.

As part of this family, at the hardest time for them right now, he should still contribute what he could.

With this thought, Lu Yuan walked out of his room.

Just as he finished putting on his shoes and was about to head out, the front door opened from outside.

A man in his 50s, wearing a blue shirt, with a haggard complexion appeared before Lu Yuan's eyes.

"Dad?!"

Lu Yuan was somewhat surprised, "Why are you back?"

"Mm."

Luxinghua nodded at Lu Yuan, not saying anything, just dragging his weary body inside.

Once indoors, he went directly to the living room sofa, laid down facing the ceiling, and closed his eyes.

Lu Yuan put his hand in his pocket, grasping the roll of money, wondering if he should go over right then to give it to Luxinghua.

Just then, Luxinghua's phone suddenly rang.

He opened his eyes to glance at the screen, then hurriedly got up and went to the balcony.

"Can you wait two more days..."

"That bastard Wang Zhichao! Owes me hundreds of thousands in goods payments, now I can't find him anywhere...My dad is still lying in the ICU!"

"I'll definitely pay you back first thing when I can!"

Lu Yuan could vaguely hear his dad on a phone call from the balcony.

He walked a bit closer, listening to the conversation slowly frowning.

Bowing his head in thought for a moment, he then firmly grasped the money in his pocket and strode into his parents' bedroom.

Half a minute later, he walked back out with a calm expression, but the money was gone.

At some point, the talking from the balcony had stopped.

Through the glass door, Lu Yuan saw Luxinghua silently smoking while facing the residential building across from them.

Lu Yuan watched for a while, prepared to leave silently, but Luxinghua's voice came from behind as he turned around.

"Little Yuan, come here!"

Lu Yuan turned back to see Luxinghua gesturing at him after putting out his cigarette in the flowerpot on the balcony.

"What is it, dad?"

Lu Yuan walked over.

Seeing Luxinghua up close for the first time, he noticed his eyes were full of red veins, like someone who hadn't slept for days.

"I heard from little Peng that you wanted to sign up for the martial arts class he goes to at that martial arts school?"

Hearing this, Lu Yuan's heart thumped. He almost couldn't help but curse.

That idiot Cheng Peng, he could forget to eat while gaming, yet still remembered to actually call his dad and talk about signing up for martial arts classes?!

"No, I don't want to go."

Lu Yuan immediately denied it, "I don't think there's any need to sign up for sports classes now. The exams are still a year away."

"And those classes would take up time I need for studying. I'm already really busy with schoolwork daily."

"You should get out of your room more instead of just reading books all day," Luxinghua suddenly interrupted Lu Yuan, then took something out of his pocket and placed it in Lu Yuan's hand. "Pay attention to balancing work and rest."

Lu Yuan saw it was a receipt with the words "Yuan Martial Arts School" on top. The amount on the receipt was "9,988".

Lu Yuan was stunned for a moment.

"While I was at the hospital, little Peng called me. On the way back I happened to pass by this martial arts school, so I just went ahead and paid the fees for you."

"The school is having a promotion event these days, anyway, might as well take advantage of the discount now..."

"Don't worry about things with our family and grandpa, your main task right now is to focus on your studies and health."

"Your mom said there was a time she asked you to bring two bags of rice up to the 4th floor, but you had to stop and rest 3 times before getting it up there. Your physique is just too poor."

"When I was your age, I could carry two big canisters of gas up 8 floors without even panting..."
