Chapter 18 - Returning at Night
"Even if Lin Zhiqin has a good private relationship with Yang Jiandong, it's been over half an hour, he should have left by now."
Lu Yuan waited another five minutes in the stairwell on the eighth floor before deciding to go out and see what was going on.
The red words "Orthopedics Ward" were marked at the entrance of the ward on the eighth floor.
Lu Yuan's eyes flickered imperceptibly as he calmly pushed open the door and walked into the inpatient ward.
Compared to the ward where his grandfather Lu Yueping was staying, the eighth floor was much noisier.
Groans of pain, big and small, came from the rooms, and some people were even screaming hysterically, drawing scoldings from the nurses.
Patients' family members carrying water jugs or urinals could be seen coming and going in a hurry from time to time.
Everyone was very busy.
No one noticed Lu Yuan.
"Bed 16"
Lu Yuan's gaze swept over the bed numbers at the entrance of each ward.
He soon found the ward with bed 16.
"That's right, this is it."
The patient's name corresponding to bed 16 was indeed Yang Jiandong.
Through the glass window on the door, Lu Yuan saw a figure lying in bed with his head wrapped in bandages and a leg in a plaster cast.
A girl in her early twenties wearing a yellow dress was sitting by the bed, looking very gentle.
"Wow, was this a car accident?"
Lu Yuan was secretly surprised, but didn't dare to look any further, and walked straight ahead.
When he reached more than 20 beds ahead, he had an idea in mind.
Lu Yuan turned around and came back. When he returned to Ward 16 again, he stood at the door and gently knocked.
He leaned to the side of the door where the people inside the ward couldn't see him.
A few seconds later, a figure in pale yellow walked out from inside.
"Who are you?"
The girl looked at Lu Yuan in confusion.
Lu Yuan hurriedly said, "I'm Coach Lin's student. Coach Lin seems to have left a spare phone here. Could you help me look for it?"
"Oh."
The girl nodded and turned to go back into the room.
Lu Yuan secretly breathed a sigh of relief, confirming that Lin Zhiqin had indeed been here.
After a while, the girl reappeared.
"I didn't see any phone."
"Coach Lin just called me saying he already found it in his car."
Lu Yuan explained apologetically, "Sorry for the trouble."
"It's fine, good that it's found."
Perhaps because of Lu Yuan's polite attitude, the girl even smiled at him, "I'll go back in if there's nothing else."
"Okay."
Just as Lu Yuan responded, looking curiously towards the room, he casually asked.
"What happened to this martial brother?
He looks quite seriously injured."
"Yeah."
The girl pursed her lips, and her eyes involuntarily turned red, her voice choking up.
"Beaten up!
He's always been like this, liking to fight with people even before learning martial arts.
After practicing martial arts for a few days, he actually went to compete, saying he could make money to buy me a house and propose if he wins.
It's lucky he didn't die in the ring!"
Injured in a martial arts competition?!
Yang Jiandong actually went to compete in martial arts?!
Lu Yuan was shocked, but still put on a regretful and sympathetic expression to comfort the girl.
After seeing the girl back into the room, Lu Yuan didn't leave immediately.
Instead, he went to the nurse's station to inquire about Yang Jiandong's specific condition.
Because he had just chatted with the girl in the yellow dress at the door of the ward as a member of Yang Jiandong's family, the nurse thought he was Yang Jiandong's friend and was very happy to let him see the medical record.
"Multiple soft tissue contusions all over the body, fractures in the face, ribs, arms and right leg."
In the hospital canteen, Lu Yuan ate while thinking about this matter.
Recently, they have seen less and less of Yang Jiandong among the students who entered Yuan Martial Arts School at the same time.
It seemed that his class time was completely different from others. Some said he was taught individually by Lin Zhiqin.
A few people in the class even went to the martial arts school to complain about Lin Zhiqin, but it came to nothing.
The relationship with Lin Zhiqin also became stiff because of this, and they withdrew from the class one by one.
Lu Yuan didn't have much objection to this.
It was the coach's own business to spot and teach a particular student individually. There was no question of fairness or unfairness.
There was envy, but as his own strength increased later, the envy gradually faded away.
Finding out about today's events completely eliminated it.
Although Yang Jiandong's girlfriend did not mention Lin Zhiqin in her words.
But Lu Yuan always felt that Yang Jiandong's injury in the competition was related to Lin Zhiqin.
"Otherwise, why would he specifically come to see him? Could it be that the competition in which Yang Jiandong was injured was arranged by Lin Zhiqin?"
Lu Yuan silently finished dinner and temporarily put aside the secret event he accidentally discovered, then quickly went upstairs to be with Lu Yueping.
In the evening, he watched the evening news with his grandfather Lu Yueping, and then found an old spy movie to watch.
Not until eight o'clock in the evening, close to nine, did Lu Xinghua finally appear in the ward.
"You've had a tiring day today."
Lu Xinghua's face was filled with fatigue. The smell of smoke could be smelled from several meters away.
God knows how many cigarettes he had smoked this afternoon and evening.
"Dad, why don't you go home today and let me stay with grandpa?"
Lu Yuan was worried about Lu Xinghua's condition and couldn't help but speak up.
But Lu Xinghua just waved his hand and said directly, "I'll take you home."
Seeing that Lu Xinghua was determined and there was no room for discussion, Lu Yuan could only say, "Then I'll go back by myself."
Lu Xinghua thought for a moment and did not insist.
"Then...be careful on the way, send me a message when you get home."
"Got it."
Walking out of the hospital gate, it was exactly nine o'clock.
Lu Yuan called his mother Zheng Qiuling. Without waiting for the last bus, he slowly walked home.
The First Hospital is close to the center of Jiaoyan City. At nine o'clock there were still many people on the street.
He could always see mobile fruit stands and all kinds of snack stalls at the intersections.
Lu Yuan couldn't help it. He bought a plate of fried noodles and two skewers of barbecue, and squatted by the roadside to eat them all.
After the physique enhancement, his appetite has also grown tremendously day by day.
He had to eat four or five meals a day to avoid feeling hungry, sometimes even six meals.
Recently, he has started to learn to match his own recipes and study all kinds of high-calorie nutritional meals.
It's just that he was ashamed of the low funds and had not really put it into practice.
"After the monthly exam, when the scholarship from the school comes down, I can eat better."
"And there's the martial arts school..."
Lu Yuan casually kicked a mineral water bottle in front of him and it just fell into the trash can not far away, attracting the attention of two stray dogs nearby.
"Cheng Peng said that formal disciples of the martial arts school need to practice basic fighting skills to proficiency, and have a punching power of at least 100 kg!"
"A punching power of 100 kg is equivalent to an amateur martial artist of Rank 3."
"It's quite difficult, but for me it's not impossible to achieve."
Lu Yuan's Strength attribute had just increased to 9 points not long ago.
Compared to the strength of a normal adult male in this world, his current punching power was estimated to be only 60-70 kg.
Lu Yuan's confidence mainly came from the two attribute points he hadn't used yet.
"Adding all to Strength, the punching power can definitely reach 100 kg."
"Not sure if it would work with just adding 1 point."
Lu Yuan's plan was to try to spare 1 point for Agility if possible.
Compared to the other three basic attributes of 9 and 10 points, the 8 points of Agility were obviously a bit lacking.
Thinking this way, he unconsciously walked out of the prosperous area.
The western part of the city was the old town of Jiaoyan City, far less bustling than the downtown area.
After nine o'clock, there were not many people on the streets.
Only street lights were on, illuminating the streets covered with garbage accumulated throughout the day.
Lu Yuan looked up at the sky but did not find the moon.
He just saw a hazy glow, shrouded in clouds.
"Looks like it's going to rain..."
Lu Yuan thought, and his pace quickened slightly.
